Recent national events have caused some to be concerned about terrorists using biologic weapons such as anthrax. This is especially true during the winter flu season.
some of the early symptoms of the flu are similar to anthrax but there are differences. The flu generally does not cause shortness of breath or vomiting, but shortness of breath and vomiting are both common with anthrax. On the other hand, the flu typically presents with symptoms of sore throat and stuffy nose, but these are uncommon with anthrax.
It is very unlikely that anthrax is the cause of flu like symptoms in a person living in the inland northwest, but as always, it is wise to seek medical attention if you feel you have severe illness.
